Wrist is complex joint between the five metacarpal bones of hand and radius & ulna bones. Wrist is Composed of eight small bones roughly arranged in two rows.
Wrist Functions
moving hand back of forth & side to side.
Transferring forces from arm to hand.
Proximal Carpals
Scaphoid, lunet, trapezium, and pisiform.
Distal Carpals
Trapezoid, Capitate, hamate.
Wrist pain
It has number of cause including carpal tunnel syndrome ganglion cyst, tendonitis, osteoarthritis.
Broken wrist (colles fracture)
Colles’ fracture are very common, they are the most frequently broken bone in arm.
It is also called “dinner fork deformity”
Cause
Fall on outstretched arm.
Treatment
Conservative
Splint : Use for intial few day while swelling goes down.
Cast : Applied for 6 to 8 weeks.
Operative
Close reduction Of internal fixation using k wires.
Open reduction & internal fixation using plates.
